Local Area Information - Bolton The town of Bolton is close to the West Pennine Moors, north west of Manchester. It dates back thousands of years, as shown by the Bronze Age burial mounds on Winter Hill and a stone circle on Cheetham Close. It has many significant historical landmarks, including the Bolton Parish Church, an exceptional example of the gothic revival style, Bolton Town Hall, a magnificent neoclassical structure built in 1873, and Smithills Hall, which dates from the 14th century.
